We’re here! Bella LaRue, NOLA NYCole and I are ready to bite the big apple. We can’t wait to hit the ground running to check out some of the sites as seen on television and in the movies. Before we did we had to find out how shooting in the Big Apple is even possible.
So the deal is if you’re going to shoot in NYC, your first stop better be to the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theater & Broadcasting. This is the gatekeeper to getting your project off the ground.
Between Hello Deli and Pie Face
There are so many different kinds of permits you may need. If it’s shot outside, there’s a special permit for that. If you need time in a park, on a bridge or tunnel, there’s a special permit for that. There’s even a NYPD Movie and TV Unit that may be needed to assist in filming. You name it, there’s a permit. Better to be safe than sorry.
According to MOFTB, around 100,000 people are gainfully employed because of all the filming that takes place in New York bringing in about $2 billion annually. There are loads of incentives including tax credits, grants and merchandise discounts, available for those shooting in New York. With opportunities like that, it’s no wonder so many people want to shoot in the city.
I was geeked to learn that while I personally may not be ready for the camera, my home may be and I can apply to offer it up to be in the next hit tv show or movie. That’s pretty cool!
